Are medications used to help improve blood sugar, hemoglobin A1c levels, May be used to help treat obesity or overweight along with diet and physical activity, and This is not a substitute for insulin. Also, This is not indicated for use in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus or for the treatment of patients with diabetic ketoacidosis.

These medications help reduce appetite by slowing stomach emptying, increase feelings of fullness, and regulate blood sugar levels by stimulating the pancreas to produce insulin, which transports glucose from the blood into cells for energy.

These medications are generally indicated for individuals who have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, or a BMI of 27 or higher with a weight-related health condition such as diabetes or high blood pressure.

  • You or any of your family have ever had a type of thyroid cancer called medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC)
  • You or any of your family have ever had MTC, or if you have an endocrine system condition called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2)
  • You have had a serious allergic reaction to semaglutide or tirzepatide or any ingredients in the product
  • You have a history of pancreatitis
  • You have kidney disease
  • You have or have had depression, suicidal thoughts, or mental health issues
  • You are pregnant or planning to become pregnant
  • You are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed
  • You have very low blood sugars (hypoglycemia)
  • You have severe diabetic complications
  • You have gallbladder issues

Patients may experience:

  • Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation
  • Stomach (abdomen) pain, headache, tiredness (fatigue)
  • Upset stomach, dizziness, feeling bloated, belching
  • Low blood sugar, especially in people with type 2 diabetes
  • Gas, stomach flu, heartburn
  • Runny nose or sore throat

Most of these side effects are generally mild and transient, and most people are able to continue taking the medication.

Black Box Warning: A warning is issued for thyroid tumors, including cancer.

  • Side effects that do not improve
  • Persistent severe abdominal pain, sometimes radiating to the back with or without vomiting. This may be a sign of pancreatitis.

  • Depression or suicidal ideation
  • Lump or swelling in your neck, hoarseness, trouble swallowing, or shortness of breath. These may be symptoms of thyroid cancer.
